Stuart R. Berkowitz, Attorney at Law is a sole practitioner in St. Louis where he is a recognized expert in representing clients against brokerage houses and financial planners. He is a member of the Public Investors Arbitration Bar Association, a national association of attorneys who specialize in representing investors in securities arbitration.

Mr. Berkowitz is regularly asked to speak on the legal rights of investors and has published numerous articles, including “The Subprime Mortgage Mess – A Primer to Assist Investors”, published in the Journal of the Missouri Bar, Vol. 64, No. 3 (May-June, 2008).

Mr. Berkowitz is a past president (2003-2006) and member of the board of the St. Louis Chapter of the Anti-Defamation League. He has also been recognized twice by Legal Services of Eastern Missouri with its Volunteer Lawyer Award. In 2011 he was awarded the prestige Pro Bono award given by Missouri Bar at it’s annual meeting

Mr. Berkowitz graduated from the University of Rochester in 1970 and received his J.D. in 1973 from Washington University in St. Louis. Between 1973 and 1978, Mr. Berkowitz worked in legal services, first in East St. Louis, Illinois and then in St. Louis, specializing in high impact class action lawsuits. He has been in private practice since 1978.

In 1995 an accounting firm referred a possible customer case that was discovered on a routine tax preparation. At that time there was no attorney in St. Louis doing securities arbitration for investors. An arbitration award was obtained against a major brokerage house. Through word of mouth more customer cases were referred to Mr. Berkowitz and he was quickly recognized as an expert in representing investors. By coincidence both his parents were accountants and his background as a litigator made him ideal as an advocate for investors.

For the last 18 years Mr. Berkowitz has devoted his considerable skill, energy, and intelligence and passion to representing investors.  Because of sensitivity to investor loss and confidence in his ability to evaluate potential claims, Mr. Berkowitz has never charged a fee unless there was a recovery of damages.
